Research has been carried out into how readers of papers such as the Western Mail and South Wales Evening Post consume news from their local councils.
The study was commissioned by local newspaper lobbying group The Newspaper Society which is now analysing the results.
It comes against a backdrop of local press animosity towards council newspapers such as The Leader and with diminished newsroom resources meaning fewer reporters in council chambers.
Findings, so Media Master has been told, show that local newspapers (60%) are the most popular media source for those who want to voice opinions on important issues. Council publications weigh in at 15% and local radio 11%.
Expect some Swansea Bay media coverage in mid-May when the results embargo is lifted.
The findings of a separate NS survey - which asked local media editors about their reporting of public bodies - will also be revealed in a couple of weeks' time.
