    I called the police when there was a man in the street cut and bleeding after being beaton up.

    I had to call 999 three time and over 40 minutes later police eventually turned up.
    Perhaps I should have said there was a nasty looking Kabab breaking in to my shed, my 999 call might have been treated with some urgency.
