Crusaders deserve Swansea Bay media splurge

Look out for significant Swansea Bay media activity by rugby league club the Celtic Crusaders over the next week and a half.
On April 1 they're due to bring the first ever Super League game to the area as Gareth "Alfie" Thomas and his teammates meet London rivals Harlequins RL.
That makes for an exciting night out in my book, an antidote to the disappointingly one-sided RBS Six Nations.
The Crusaders asked Andy Pearson Publicity to line up some decent visibility in the Swansea Bay media as the build-up progresses.
Our friends at Afan FM, Radio Tircoed and the South Wales Evening Post have all indicated an eagerness to run match ticket competitions.
Other organisations have put their hands up too to help herald a new dawn in Welsh sport. Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Trust and Swansea Council are among the organisations keen to run employee ticket offers.
Hosts Neath RFC, meanwhile, have also been quick to show their support.
A press just issued from The Gnoll reads: "We welcome Super League here for the first time when the Crusaders play Harlequins on April 1 at 7.30pm.
"It will be the first time the famous old ground has hosted top-class professional rugby league and, with the Crusaders beginning to make an impression from their new Wrexham HQ, great interest is already being shown in one of only two 2010 fixtures the outfit will play in South Wales."
Supporters have the chance to see both codes with a ticket package embracing the Crusaders’ return to South Wales and Neath’s Principality Premiership clash with Pontypridd on Easter Saturday for £20. For dual tickets click here.

Lenny's Swansea media spotlight shines on Priscilla

Alison Lenihan continues to build an entertaining portfolio of interviews on her Swansea community radio show.
The former South Wales Evening Post character flags up on her Facebook page that her next subject will be Phillip Arran aka Miss CC Swan.
The couple are united for Lenny's afternoon show on Radio Tircoed tomorrow (Tuesday, March 16) from 2pm.
The presenter reckons it'll be an "hilarious two hours" ... and who am I to doubt her?
Tune in on the web - http://www.radiotircoed.com/ - or, if you're in the M4 corridor between Hendy and Birchgrove, on the good old wireless, 106.5FM.
CC, incidentally, plans to play WOW, Cardiff, in cabaret this Sunday (March 21). More eyecatchingly, the character has been a West End hit in recent months, playing alongside Jason Donovan in the up-and-at-'em Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Swansea Bay media's Haiti help continues

The fine folk at Radio Tircoed (http://www.radiotircoed.com/) welcomed me into their midst yesterday - and an educational visit it was too (for me, not them).
Station manager Phil England was at the controls of his morning show, accompanied by sidekick-for-the-day Caroline Carpenter.
As well as providing the usual mix of chat, travel info, weather and news, they were getting heartily stuck into promoting day one of the UK-wide local radio Hope for Haiti auction. Swansea Sound and The Wave are also involved.
As the day progressed it turned into a fine effort. Tickets to see song-and-dance quartet JLS went for £650, for instance.
Today's lots include items from the likes of Harry Connick Jr, La Roux and Avril Lavigne. Tomorrow's items include goods from Will Young, Nelly Furtado, Nickelback and many more.
Tircoed's national link is sitting comfortably with the station's community ethos. The walls of their studio are lined with business cards and publicity for local entertainers and business people who have found popularity on their respective Swansea Bay circuits.
They include Andrew Harley and his Kings of Cool Show (http://bit.ly/aNpwxm), and Loughor-based violin restorer John Carpenter (http://www.johncarpenterviolins.co.uk/).
Today's top news story was about a Welsh assembly vote next week enabling AMs to trigger the process for a referendum on further powers.
And all this week The Morning Show is playing two Carpenters double-plays, marking the February 4 anniversary of Karen Carpenter's 1983 death.
On FM, incidentally, you can tune in to Tircoed on 106.5.

Hope for Haiti from Swansea Bay

Phil England, of community favourite Radio Tircoed, tells me the station will be part of a three-day auction for Haiti from February 2.
As far as I can ascertain, this broadcasting minnow is the only Swansea Bay programmer so far to get involved with Hope for Haiti.
Lots are committed from Simon Cowell, Coronation Street and music giants Sony, Polydor, Mercury and Island.
Radio Tircoed will join a number of other local radio stations across the UK for the online push. All will point listeners to a central auction page.
Station manager Phil says: "100% of the money raised will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee. We're really pleased to be taking part and know our listeners will respond positively to a great cause."
William Rogers, one of the auction's main movers, said: "This is about local radio stations coming together to deliver a locally focused appeal that will raise much needed funds for Haiti and give listeners the chance to bid on prizes that money can’t usually buy.
“We're delighted we've got support from stations such as Radio Tircoed."
