PR boost for Welsh athletes

Welsh press photo of the month?

No contest.

Log on to the new edition of glossy mag Sporting Wales, flick to page 40 ... and enjoy the cheering sight of the Welsh Commonwealth Games team.

They’re pictured together in Cardiff’s magnificent new John Lewis store before jetting off for India.

Salute

So forget the difficulties with Delhi for a moment if you can and salute the fine achievement of all these red tracksuited sportspeople. They’ve won the right to represent Wales on the international circuit and deserve exposure such as this.

From a PR point of view it’s a lovely way of saluting the athletes and all who support them.

Well done Sporting Wales and good luck to the Wales team.

Cardiff polo - and the best of Welsh

If there's one new sports photo you see this month, make it the polo double-page spread on pages 24 and 25 of Sporting Wales. It's a beauty, with colourful kits, gorgeously groomed horses and Cardiff Castle as a dramatic backdrop.
For three years, photographer Steve Pope and editor Hamish Stuart have worked hard on their fledgling publication, employing glorious imagery, elegant design and intelligent wordcraft.
They deserve praise for Sporting Wales - and it duly came with the pair being named journalists of the year by the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
The magazine's distributed free across Wales and has a refreshing agenda, happily embracing the lesser publicised sports as well as the usual suspects. The latest edition features activities such as extreme adventuring, Paralympians, swimming and cycling.
For businesses wishing to be associated with a quality product and dynamic Welsh sports performers it might be worth exploring possible commercial hook-ups with the magazine. I can happily advise.
Advertisers in the latest edition include the Celtic Manor, insurers CCV, retailer InterSport and the St David's Centre, Cardiff.

Swansea Bay's sounding good for Mike

Listen out for a new edition of Blog Talk Radio's In Town Today, presented by Swansea's own Mike Leahy.
It's due to air via the internet today (Thursday) at 7pm.
It's an interesting concept, this broadcasting on a shoestring - and Mike tells me he's thrilled with the way it's going.
His eclectic range of interviewees ranges from an author reading part of her book nude on the radio - the full frontispiece, I assume - to a member of staff at London's oldest restaurant.
You can catch all the shows Mike's done so far on the relevant web page.
As a marketing tool it's clever because it's memorable, interactive and thoroughly engaging. It's a lot of work to put together a talk-radio show like this but our man is getting more accomplished by the week.
Keep up the good work, Mike.
Incidentally, if you're a Swansea Bay business which fancies a bit of publicity, give me a shout on 07758 745 240. I'll put you onto the man himself.
